Everyone likes to speculate on the future. Making bold predictions – especially about specific businesses – has become an art form. While anyone can toss out an opinion, those that are part of a company in question are entitled to having more say in what changes need to be made.
This is happening right now in the IT industry as anyone with a stake in a certain technology is boosting its importance in the coming years. While some innovations are going to have a bigger impact on the business world than others, not every company has the same outlook.
Case in point, Kevin Hall, the CIO of GreenPages – an IT solutions provider – was interviewed by Journey to the Cloud about his outlook for 2013.
"Overall, I think there is a very positive outlook for IT as we move into the future," Hall said. "Whether or not the economy turns around (and I believe it is going to), all businesses are seeking to leverage technology. Based on our conversations with our customers, no one has made any statements to say 'hey, we've got it all figured out, there is nothing left to do.'"
Hall went on to say that, for him, the major priorities of 2013 are to continue to rationalize and prioritize within the organization. By rationalize, he is referring to the ability to know what the company needs and what they don't when compared to what it already has. After understanding that, prioritizing comes into play. If a company is going to invent a new solution, it better be the right one.
Tech decision-makers need to be aware of the fact that going forward a business has to actively participate with IT in building it out, according to Hall. With this, IT Principals need to ensure they have the right resources at their disposal to handle any challenge.
