With the New Year just on the horizon, business are increasingly concerned with how the IT channel will change in 2013. There has been talk that many companies will be moving slowly or cutting expenses to start the year because of the impending fiscal cliff, but according to a new survey of C-level technology executives, that may not be the case.
A recent report from an IT staffing adviser Robert Half spoke with more than 1,400 CIOs at U.S. businesses with 100 or more employees for its outlook on what the beginning of 2013 will look like. According to the survey, over the next three months, 17 percent of CIOs said they are looking to add to their IT departments, while 75 percent are planning on staying put.
The survey also discovered some of the hottest careers that IT Principals struggle to fill when the calendar changes. Near the top of the list is IT security professionals, application developers and database managers.
For MSPs and VARs, recruiting early in the year can actually be advantageous – it gives them a leg up on their competition because they get to available talent before anyone else. If Solution Providers already have staffing plans in place for 2013, they will be best equipped to address the needs of IT Principals. "While it is true that normal business activities tend to slow down during the holidays, this season often proves to be very active for talent acquisition," Bier said. "Our most progressive clients get a head start on their New Year's goals by adding the impact personnel that will take their business to the next level."
