The beginning of the year is filled with projections of the next 12 months. It seems that everywhere you look, there is another IT executive providing their insight into what the top IT trends of 2013 will be. While each has a specific take, a few underlying themes start to emerge.
A recent Forbes contribution piece by Verizon Enterprise Solutions chief platform officer David Small is one such prediction and the popular trends can be seen in his ideas. The hybrid cloud, mobility, security, networking and the internet on more devices are on nearly every list of the trends that will shape the IT business world in 2013.
However, there is another topic that does not get enough ink – the increasingly fierce fight for the top IT talent. Each new innovation that creates a “must-have” business solution means there is another skill that IT departments must learn to use properly.
“This is the tightest candidate market we’ve ever seen, and the competition for accomplished and impactful emerging-technology Solution Architects, Engineers, and Sales Executives has never been greater,” VAR Staffing‘s own Todd Billiar said in the company’s recent newsletter.
He added that because demand is outpacing supply, it has become a candidate’s market, putting impactful talent at a premium. A bad hire can influence customers, internal operations, and waste time and money. Companies need to make sure they are bringing in the best possible solution from the start.
In the end, impactful talent makes all the difference. Whether it is IT Principals bringing in a new member of the team or a Solution Provider adding professionals to make sure the company can handle any challenge that its partners may have, systems will fall flat without the right professionals.
