The IT skills gap is a real concern that the IT channel is facing head-on. With technology evolving at a breakneck pace and playing a more substantial role in the business sector, more IT Principals are feeling the pressure of finding impactful talent.
According to the results of a CompTIA survey, more than 75 percent of businesses said technology is important or very important to their success, and the majority are planning increases to their IT budgets. On top of that, 40 percent are planning to increase the sizes of their IT staffs in 2013.
"Most businesses understand the important role technology plays in achieving their goals, and so are looking to improve their use of IT," a Tech Week article about the survey read. "However, companies are also concerned that there is a lack in both the quality and quantity of available IT talent."
This can be seen in the survey, as more than 50 percent of respondents said they were concerned about the overall state of IT hiring.
Despite the worry, IT hiring does seem to be on the rise. A Techamerica study of staffing figures from 2012 found that U.S. tech employment rose last year. The IT industry added 67,400 jobs, which is an increase of 1.1 percent from 2011. Furthermore, the tech growth outpaced the private sector, which increased by 1 percent.
One way for IT Principals to answer the skills gap is to turn toward quality VARs and MSPs to handle technology challenges. However, these solution providers are also dealing with the crunch and can get through it with the help of VAR Staffing and the impactful talent it provides.
