Every IT department has to balance the innovation vs budget beam not sure I get this. While every new technology costs money, there are ways for organizations to get past that to become true innovators for their companies.
In a recent guest column for Forbes, CIO of Massage Envy Spa Dan Miller spoke about taking over the IT department five years ago and the decisions he made—most noticeably outsourcing. He mentioned that being in the technology industry means you are able to handle some "fantastic innovations" on a daily basis and that this feeling is only growing with the growth of mobile.
"However, to be successful, IT departments must continue to focus on the fundamentals, budgeting time between both existing and new technology," Miller wrote. "If too much time is spent "keeping the lights on," the IT department is seen as a cost center, a non-innovator or even a roadblock due to its inability to deliver quickly."
He went on to say that when he took over the IT department, it was handling all of the companies internal servers, email and more. This put the organization in "fire-fighting mode" where it was reacting instead of being proactive because the help desk was overwhelmed with smaller problems to fix that affected daily tasks.
The answer was to outsource portions of the help desk with an MSP that would become a true business partner. VAR Staffing can help solution providers identify and recruit the impactful talent that is needed to turn an IT consulting firm into a go-to MSP.
