Anyone who has tried to hire someone with specific technology skills knows how fierce the competition for top quality talent can be. As the dependence on technology grows, so to does the fight in the IT channel.
A recent article from CIO covered the CIO Perspectives event that was held in San Francisco. During the gathering, the executives spoke about recruiting and shared strategies and ideas when it comes to finding and managing the impactful talent that is needed to meet today's challenges.
According to Chris Morgan, an executive coach and founding principal at Morgan Alexander, the "war for talent is mission critical" for technology decision makers. One of the biggest challenges is that small businesses that have just started to incorporate technology into operations find themselves battling major tech companies for the same top notch professionals.
Morgan added that instead of trying to lure talent away from larger companies or using gimmicks like free food, companies should be recruiting smart.
"The key is to focus on individuals who want to quickly grow their skills and influence, and who may even look at their technical work as a kind of art form that requires a lifetime of improvement. It's not about winning," Morgan said. "Rather it's really about working toward personal perfection. Recruit for attitude, not for skill. You're trying to get raw material."
Another method to meeting IT challenges is to partner with a quality VAR or MSP. VAR Staffing helps solution providers identify and recruit impactful talent that can make the difference for any business.
