Everyone understands the importance of finding the right people to fill the open positions at their organizations, but where to find those individuals is not always agreed upon.Of course, strategies vary depending on the positions that are open and the skills required, but in an uncertain job market where, according to Accenture, 46 percent of executives won't have the skilled individuals they need, we can all agree that something has to be done to fill this gap. This may require companies to think outside the box.
Nicholas Wyman, the CEO at the Institute for Workplace Skills and Innovation, suggests looking internally. He discussed this in a recent LinkedIn blog post.
"Are you having a hard time finding people with the skills needed to innovate and grow your business? If so, there may be one obvious place you haven't thought to look yet: inside your own company," Wyman writes. "Instead of spending time and money on recruiting new hires, consider making an investment in training the talent you already have."
This could help in some areas, but in positions associated with technology where the landscape is changing all the time, it may be best to bring on someone specialized in that particular area. This is easier said than done, of course, and may require the help of outside sources like VARs and MSPs. Those organizations must ensure they find the best people as well so they can fulfill the needs of their clients. Even if they opt to hire internally to fill future positions, they must first find individuals who show that sort of potential. VAR Staffing can help by identifying and recruiting the best candidates for VARs and MSPs.
